In this video I demonstrate how to use Space and Depth Keys to originate a Key. This is known as the “poor mans code machine”. If you do not yet have a Code Origination machine such as the HPC 1200 Blitz or Punch Machine, this method can work for you in a pinch.
You may only offer Key Copies, however you should note that if a customer requests 20 or more copies of 1 key for a business or complex, you should always originate a new copy of that key after every 15 copies.

Awesome! Thanks man! Going to order a set of these. I bought 2 keys from codes last week and could have cut them myself for half what I paid using this approach.
Why not use the existing key as the guide instead of the code + space&depth? In case the existing is worn down?
Man, you didn’t even use the shoulder gauge and it came out perfect haha… that’s how the old vets cut keys 😂
I always use depth keys with a duplicator fitted with a double angle(V shaped)cutter to ensure that the back slopes are cut properly.
