Dangerous republican-led gun control filed in Texas is the perfect illustration of unintended consequences as it backfires on self-defense. SB787 filed by Senator Joan Huffman, which seeks to increase the mandatory minimum punishment for many of the worst crimes on the books sweeps up law-abiding gun owners and law enforcement officers who act in justified self-defense. Armed Attorneys Emily Taylor and Richard Hayes discuss this dangerous republican-led gun control and explain how a simple fix could prevent discrimination against self-defenders.

  1. Isn't Houston a liberal stronghold? This sounds like something our Oregon leftists government would come up with. Thank you for your informative and entertaining presentations!

  2. In Texas if you have a firearm in your possession and commit a nonviolent non-felony crime, you are still automatically considered to be carrying a firearm during the commission of a crime. Your weapon will be confiscated before you're even convicted and it will probably be hell getting it back.

  3. NOW I'M SORRY MY SON HAD TO USE MY PHONE AT WORK! THANK YOU DAN AND EMILY FOR BRINGING THIS TO MY ATTENTION AND I WILL DEFINITELY CONTACT MY REPS AND STATE THE OBVIOUS FLAWS IN THIS BILL!!!

  4. I'm sure this is probably already been said but No laws should be based on the type of weapon used. Deadly force is deadly force regardless of the type of instrument. Whether it's a baseball bat the golf club or a cannon you can only kill somebody so dead.

Making laws based on the instrument somehow implies that the inanimate object used to render harm to another person has its own moral value. And therefore somehow sharing the blame with the perpetrator. But an inanimate objects are inanimate objects and In and of themselves, they are not evil. It is the people behind them that do evil things with them.

  5. Because of this video, I was able to look up my state reps and send them an email about this bill. I even sent them a link to this video. I wrote to Sen. Ted Cruz as well. Every little tidbit counts.

  6. Gun control is not about democrat or republican parties, it's mainly about our rights as Americans who believe and understand what the actual 'law of the land' the US Constitution is actually talking about. The Founding Fathers were no dunces regarding our nation's protection of our sacred rights that the government at any level should protect. If we meekly stand by and allow these rights to be nullified, we only can blame ourselves.

  7. What is going wrong with you people, you should go after the criminals not the innocent people, dont bite the hand that feeds you. Your FIRED, our forefathers wouldve all ready put the criminals in court jail & boot hill. Everyone has cowed down on everything scary hoooo👻 . That's why crime is running rampade no real punishment I say defund politicians, soft judges, crooked lawyers, undedicated people for not doing their jobs that sleep 😪😴😧 , get it? on the job, look where we are!!!!!! Be Americans STAND UP for YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS MAKE AMERICA STRONG AGAIN.

  8. There's a difference between a Republican and a RINO! What is a RINO? A lying Democrat that run's under a Republican Ticket! Its one of the Democrats OLDEST running tactics to keep the pesky votes thingy from EVER stabilizing this country!

  9. ALL elected politicians should be required to complete MANDATORY EDUCATION ON THE US CONSTITUTION, because obviously, so many have exactly ZERO understanding!

  10. Let my Texas Senator Bob Hall know about this and received a message back that he was going to talk to her about changing the bill also told him about the Gov statement on this bill. Provide him with this video. Thank you for all you do.

  11. Sounds like she didn't think it through or is more concerned about keeping her "Position" , then serving the decent people of Texas

  12. Its almost like what we need to do is make all the 10 commandment stuff illegal, and then not have any other laws, so that people arent put in prison for 10 years. Also nolo contendre and plea bargains need to leave as they are coercive to innocent people and only serve to get the state convictions. Its predatory. We are supposed to have a right to trial. That right should be enforced. Also if Im in a school zone and its not legal there even if I can legally possess a gun that's unlawful possession because im possessing it in an anlawful manner, i.e. within the zone. So you need to get your heads on straight.

  13. Gun compromise means that gun owners give give give while anti-gun legislators take take take. After the last by pardison and I use that quite loosely gun compromise there shouldn't be any anti-gun legislation being proposed ever again. Unfortunately it looks like darn near everything that was in that bill is going to be found unconstitutional by the supreme Court in the near future. Thank goodness at least the supreme Court and the federal courts are treating with same respect the first gets

  14. Emily's analogy about the strangler and the self defender illustrates perfectly why this bill must be amended. Fear in self-defense use of firearms is not the exclusive domain of the private citizen, as many police officers have found themselves in a similar situation.
Second guessing or hindsight may be esteemed by many as being 20/20, but only the principals involved in a deadly force scenario can explain the causative or motivational factors of the shooting.

  15. Self Defense is a criminal act in my Lincolnite Union state so I fully support the 2nd Confederacy and proudly fly the Bonnie Blue flag against union tyranny and their corrupt legal system that mars unalienable rights. If most people fought the tyranny the corrupt union would collapse.

  16. I have to agree with CRS's channel that this fix isn't a good idea either. If you look at an area map of school zone you can easily be "unlawful" just staying on highways never knowing your breaking the law. Unlawful is unnecessary, the crime itself is all that should be considered. Anything else is a form of gun control.

  17. Always carry. Always carry a handgun that is not connected to you in anyway, make sure your ammo has no fingerprints or DNA upon it. (In my opinion) after defending yourself, leave before the thugs in blue show up and charge you for just defending your life.

  18. Deadly weapon add on should not be about guns.
If they are going to have something like this, all deadly weapons should be treated equally. Guns, knives, bats, cars, feet, axes, candle sticks etc.

They could accomplish the goal here, keeping bad guys in cages, with truth in sentencing laws. Eliminate early release.

  19. This is what you get when voters keep voting for Abbott/Phelan/Cornyn-type RINOs just because they have a "R" by their name…..

….Texas Republicans are the stupidest Republicans of all.

  20. I think maybe state what the (proposed) law says first, and then explain your interpretation and ramifications regarding it – instead of the other way around. I found your current presentation a bit confusing because you jump right into how bad it is before defining "what" it is. Just my 2c
