This video is dedicated to the number of questions I’ve gotten in this area. Being up in age does not mean you’re unable to defend yourself, it just means the game changes. Here are three tips. #selfdefense #situationalawareness #protectyourself

  1. I'm going to be turning 54 in may. I think about getting "OLD" quite a bit, so this specific topic resonates quite profoundly with me. I'm basically in a sort of Twighlight Zone phase of life, where, i still feel like I'm quite capable and formidable in being able to defend myself in a physical altercation. I still practice Martial arts, especially boxing, and i also run sprints regularly. So basically, i could still throw down and hold my own, for at least a good minute or so, even against a 20 or 30 something medium sized tough guy street punk who feels like beating up ole Robby boy. And if the street punk is just obviously too big for me to reasonably defend against, well, that's where my surprising sprinting ability will hopefully get me out of an overwhelmingly dangerous situation. This is only the "For Now" status for myself though. Believe me when i say, that, I'm quite aware that these nice youthfull abilities that I'm still somehow maintaining, while now Well into my 50's, will eventually Wither Away, upon the Advanced Aging stages of my life. This is obviously a very depressing thought and also just simply a realistic realization and expectation. No one beats Father Time as the age old saying goes. Maybe in the near future i could hire a personal Bodyguard. 😅

  2. I'm 65 and I live in London England, most old men my age carry knives because it's a sure bet that our attackers all carry them and if you are at the back of a bus and someone thinks you are "disrespecting" them with your mere presences there is nowhere to run, we know that if the attacker is injured we will likely be sent to prson but that isn't such a detterrent at my age considering how bad life is on the outside here now.

  3. Early morning Winn Dixie’s 7am S. Fl a freak approached me asking for cash ….before knew it we were running around the auto… suddenly I stopped and shouted I’ll fu## you up.. I’m from Detroit…he ran off…

  4. As our nation is being invaded by many violent and evil people we cannot be too careful.
As you say “situational awareness” is a very important self defense tactic.
Predators always hunt down the weak and infirm, they are their first target.
Human predators are cowardly. We’ve seen news clips of the increasing violence, and being 75 years old I don’t even want to go out anymore.
I’ve been encouraged by your video and the many comments. Attitude is a self defense tactic. DONT LIVE AS IF YOUR HELPLESS! You mentioned “the way you carry yourself.”
So I’m going to start doing better by working to be more energetic and spry.
One tip I’ve thought about is to carry as little as possible with you when you do leave the house. Try not to carry pocketbooks, something a predator will run by and grab, dragging you to the pavement. Put money , credit cards etc in your pants pocket or a small undetectable fanny pack worn under a loose shirt.
1st and most important pray for Gods protection!

  5. Excellent video. I am 75 and my husband is 77 we are both very conscious of keeping ourselves safe. We keeps fit and active as possible. We are firm believers of "walk like you mean business" Thank you we all need reminders.

  6. If I’m mad enough I won’t let anything stop me. I get crazed , and you can tap into that if you just think of something that really ticks you off. That’s easy. Everybody has something they can get riled over. Lol

  7. Here in the UK we are not allowed to have anything to defend ourselves with, even ex-military are not allowed so much as a pen knife or a BB gun so when out and about my attention never wavers, I don’t walk about with headphones on and am careful as to where and when I’m out and about. I scan all faces and don’t care if it upsets some folk as I want to see their eye’s or check out their behaviour in case its going to be an issue. My personal fall-back position is that being old going to prison for getting my retaliation in first wouldn’t be much different than when I served, probably better, three squares a day, TV, Medical, someone to talk to and no cockroaches in the sugar or maggots in the biscuits, bonus!

  8. Good information. It occurred to me that footwear is important, too. Exa: It's harder to project strength when you are wobbling in high heels. It's also harder to get away when wearing them. Just my humble opinion.

  9. Good Points. People grown up in age should nor vorget to become old need strength and if You are old You already proved strenth.
    Remember where You already throu.
Even the strongest and fitest bullie loses without mental strength.
A fit mind weights more than a fit body.
Martial arts is at first the way of intelligent thinking.
Only weak People are looking for trouble …..

  10. I fear the forces I can't see much more than the forces I can. Like government programs, auto mechanics, doctors, health insurance and on and on. They won't let me hurt a thief that is trying to hurt me. That leaves me two choices, become very aware or avoid it at all cost. Every thief is different so no one approach works. A cave might help protect me. All the training in the world can't keep you safe in this country. The treatment of our aging humans in this country sucks. Unfortunately this has me very angry and sad so if you want my wallet you better come prepared to meet your god.

  11. I am a combat vet and the 6th sense that I had developed in combat 54 years ago still warns me and the feeling is very strong that something ain't right. It kept me out of a gun fight last week in Downtown Freeattle Seattle while waiting for a transfer for a bus.

  12. Getting on in years now. (72)….so….I can walk OK, but on occasion I cary a cane…..a hickory "Livestock Cane" ….much harder than any of the bones attacking you, lightweight, cheap like borscht and there are some good books on cane fighting out there.

  13. Hi thanks for your thinking of us oldies. I'm in the UK at 65 with damaged back and knees things are becoming frightening due to the rise of Islam, so will follow along. Thanks again.

  14. I live in as an expat in a country where single older looking women who live alone are No. 1 prey. I dont go out late – always home by 4 or 5 latest. I dont wear fancy jewellery or cloths, very plain, simple and very "blending" and not rich looking. I take one of a known fleet of taxis. I keep my house locked up after 5. I keep three dogs, one of a breed locals are scared of. I dont talk about myself. when asked by friendly seeming locals if I am here alone, I say no, my husband and grown up son are here. I never lie but this is self defence. Mainly, do the small things that keep you safe.

  15. An ex Army Intel guy told me the three things they are taught.
    1. Dont be there when it happens; meaning be aware of situations, tensions, odd things, and keep away
    2. If No. 1 fails, talk your way out, using any means, lies, manipulations, but do anything you can to talk your way out
    3. If No 1 and No2 fail, use whatever you have to to save yourself, and use it mercilessly. Leave as soon as you are able.

  16. My neighbors live in an apartment complex where there are gang members. I know this because a few years ago, on a Sunday afternoon, a 16 year old boy was executed in front of his friends because his dad apparently stiffed a gang member on a drug deal. Now every so often this gang walks through my 55+ community looking for someone and due to fire code regs we cannot fence off our property. I usually carry pepper spray & also have a shotgun inside my home, but clearly neither would work if I was confronted by these thugs. The police are worthless & terrified of these people. I'm liquidating & intending to move to Spain in the autumn because I have both U.S. and E.U. citizenship. I view this as 'trading up' as their health care, climate, sites & food are much better and a little cheaper than ours. And I honestly can't afford to move to somewhere else in the U.S. & living with all the violence isn't how I envisioned my retirement.

  17. Thank you for your video. As a 62yo female who has a handicap that isn’t visible, I have trained in being proactive. When I’m by myself, I walk like I own the place. I also have an equalizer that is always with me. I’m friends with it and we play well together😎stay safe and keep your head and eyes on swivel. Unfortunately, this is a mean world. Always KNOW what you’re doing because we don’t know what others are!

  18. I'm 70, recent hip replacement.
My background is heavy weights / competitions etc.
But that life is far behind me and even breaking into a trot is un-doable.
My neighborhood is without question "a pot ready to boil over".
For several years I've been carrying a collapsible baton. about 2 foot when deployed.
This can Put a safer distance between you and you adversary.
Even a half effort to strike can break bones but certainly make that person think.
Its in my shoulder bag and always at the ready.
It inspires confidence but not arrogance.
My posture is always non threatening giving passers by their space un-provocative.
No eye contact, male or female.
I stick to the Plan; Im going shopping for grub, then that's what I'll be doing.
It's Like; Dressing for the Weather / Point A to B.
Let's be honest, society has changed in my 70 years and most importantly, I have changed too.
    good luck…

  20. I started jiujitsu at 55, 6 years later I still get my ass handed to me by those faster, flexible and better technique than myself but i do love hearing “ damn old Man U die hard “
Interestingly, I’m usually not over-powered by most prolly cuz i have lifted weights with a purpose my entire adult life. “Old man strength” is a real thing I guess 😬

  21. I'm a female just turned 76 & run on treadmill @ 11% incline …3 mph for 30 minutes 5 days a week …started when I turned 75 because of ever changing world we live in…TY for ur advice… be SAFE…😎
